evaluation 4
Question 4 - How did you use new media
technologies in the research and planning,
construction and evaluation stages?
The research and planning stages is probably the most difficult phase of the process as it deals with such a large proportion of the course from watching, learning and understanding how music videos are made and for what purpose to theorising your target audience and what you should include in your music video. This proved challenging but in the end rewarding as we were then properly prepared to begin work on filming and producing our music video.
in the beginning websites such as you tube were used to watch videos and then blogger the means to dissect and analyse to see what aspects of these videos we could use to our advantage.

you tube and blogger also played a role in the broadcasting of our preliminary task. This was an exercise in practising lip-sinking, we recorded ourselves practising the technique using a tripod which we were already capable of handling due to last years task and a new HD type camera slightly different that the ones used last year but just as effective. We then used final cut express to edit together the footage which we are all moderately proficient in dealing with agin thanks to the work done last year.

Then it all came down to choosing our own music video and getting on with our own project due to the fact that no copyrighted music was allowed as we would be breaking copyright infringement laws by using the music on sites like blogger and you tube, we had to find undiscovered talent in bands and artists that were not affiliated with any record label so we took to the internet, to sites like "unsigned.com" and "newgrounds" these are websites dedicated to the promotion of unsigned bands complete with individual bios and sample tracks.
These were sites we had ever used before but were extremely helpful with a huge catalogue of unsigned musicians to chose from, however this was slightly overwhelming and was a lengthily process to view each profile and listen to the provided tracks one by one so these websites although helpful only got us so far.
I didn't chose my music from either of these sites but through another source once I had done that I used various social networking websites to obtain information and perspective on the band they had their own website featuring all they music which is where I was able to download the desired song not only to present on the blog but to use as the audio in my music video, they also had a Facebook page and videos on you tube documenting their performances and practicing sessions etc.
we used several techniques for research into our target audience which I have talked more about in my other evaluation question (3) such as survey monkey, wordle and filming Vox pops.
For the animatic we drew out on paper a storyboard detailing the scenes of our music video then taking photos with a digital HD still camera we could upload the images to the apple macs this was also useful for the digipack I made as i could upload images taken on my phone to the computer which could then be manipulated.
